Jorge Lorenzo reached top spot this weekend on a podium comprised of his fellow countrymen, Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez. The 26 year old Spaniard cruised to victory to secure his third win of the year, overcoming main rival Dani Pedrosa and further confirming his current status as world champion.
This latest result adds to Lorenzo’s already impressive season, marking his sixth successive podium appearance and third first place position of the season.
In a post race interview Lorenzo admitted that "I didn't expect this victory.”
"I knew the key was the start and not to let Dani Pedrosa get away but I had luck and did better than I expected at the start. It was very hard from then on but I kept pushing for the rest of the race."
Lorenzo went off to an impressive start taking pole position from Dani Pedrosa and failed to come under any threat for the majority of the race, leaving the rest of the riders competing for second and third.
l saw off to claim pole position. The top three spots were all held by spanish Lorenzo cruised to the top position after passing . Valentino Rossi took fourth and German Stefan Bradl also missed out on a top position by finishing fifth.
British hopeful Cal Crutchlow was also gunning for a top three position but saw it slip away as he crashed out on his sixth lap. Fellow Briton Bradly Smith gained his most successful position of his season by securing sixth, racing despite an injury to his finger.
